The Many Forms Of Art

This was a gift for my Odissi dance teacher – as a ‘thank you’ for all that she has taught me over the years, and making me the dancer I am. I approached a company comprising a group of artists that carve out these personalized mementos. You give them a picture you would like engraved, and they carve it out for you on a wooden surface, even adding a personal touch with greetings or well wishes. They asked if I would like any specific lettering engraved with the picture, and I sent them these words along with a photograph of my dance teacher. Guru Purnima is an auspicious occasion for thanking the guru (teacher/mentor). They truly did a commendable job. The carving is so intricate, you can actually feel the folds of the saree costume and jewellery. The font and spacing of words was their own added touch.
