This is today’s Google doodle – A celebration to mark the 124th birth anniversary of George Lemaître. The Belgian astronomer was a professor of physics at the University of Leuven, and was the one who first proposed the idea of an expanding universe which began with the event we now call The Big Bang.
Lemaître served in the Belgian army during WWI, and pursued further education after the war which included two doctorates in physics and astronomy.
I like the stelliferous nature of the doodle to represent an astronomer. Some star gazing would have been an apt tribute to commemorate the occasion. With the rain clouds hovering overhead, however, there hasn’t been a chance for any astronomy.
Rain clouds filling up the sky.
The clouds are pretty and fluffy during the day though.

Fancy Google Doodle playing into our hands! Well noticed!
